(At Least) Six Ways to Increase Comments on Your Blog!
Have you had your blog going for a while?
Are you not getting any comments on your posts, even though Google Analytics indicates that you’re getting a decent amount of traffic?
Here’s some ways to get your readers reponding to your posts.
- Make sure you’re writing about what will be of interest to your readers. I know this sounds simple, but when you are writing posts to your blog, you should be thinking of your audience and what they are interested in. What are some questions that you think they would want answers to? Try to put yourself in their shoes, for a minute. If they’re not interested in your post, chances are they won’t bother responding.
- Post often in your blog. If you post often in your blog, it will do wonders for readers checking back in to your blog. They will come to expect posts from you on a regular basis, and if you disappoint them they will quickly lose interest.
- Ask questions that beg to be answered. You don’t have to answer everything. It’s okay to leave something up for discussion. Think lines like: “What would you do?”, or “How would you handle this situation?”. If they have a strong opinion or know the answer, they will be more likely to jump in.
- Make it easy to comment on your blog. Maybe your comments section requires too much information to be typed in before a comment can be left. Maybe you should rethink that. Some people just don’t want to go to that much trouble.
- Respond to comments graciously. Check your dashboard often and approve comments quickly after they are left. Also, your readers love it when you respond to their comments and know you stay in touch.
- Read others’ blogs and leave comments. You can learn a great deal by reading other bloggers’ posts, but be sure you really read the post before you leave a comment. Also, leave a meaningful comment about the content of the post, not a throwaway comment like “Great post!”. Leaving comments on other blogs invites others to take a look at your blog, and can also create backlinks to your own blog. It’s also a great way to make some new friends in the same niche.
When you start attracting a decent amount of comments on your blog, it will tend to influence more of your readers to do the same, especially if you reply to their comments. Sometimes you can get a really nice dialogue going in your comments section.

Steven,
Can’t recall how we ran into each other or who commented on who’s blog first. All I can say is I am glad it happened.
You always post information that is meaningful and current.
Some times it is difficult to understand why people do not comment on our posts. I tend to believe they just are not going to leave a comment and until they have been able to visit and read your stuff for a while.
That sort of cements what you said about making sure we post on our blogs on a regular basis. They have to get use to seeing us.
Am headed ove to my blog to make a new post and update the free offer. The free offer seems to get getting some action but still no comments to speak of.
Have a great day sir. I am expecting a wonderful and properous 2013 for you.
Clyde
Hello Clyde, thanks for the kind words. I think I reached your blog through a comment you made on another blog (maybe Paula Bennett’s?).
I think you’re right about people having to read your blog posts for awhile before they feel comfortable enough to comment. Maybe it takes a little time before they see you as a real person.
I definitely believe the more often you post on your blog the better. I think readers come to expect regular posts, and if you let them down they will lose interest fast.
Im looking forward to reading your new post on your blog.
Steven,
If you visited my blog right after you replied to my comment you found out I dropped the ball and did not get the new post up right away.
Some times we let life get in the way. Anyway it is there now, along with the free limited time download offer.
Hey Clyde, no problem, I’ll check it out now. Thanks
Hi Steven,
Hey, your blog is pretty cool also! I had to return the favor.
The topic in this blog post has many marketers baffled today.
How do they generate comments on their blogs? That is followed by how do they get the traffic to their blogs in the first place? However, that’s an idea for another blog post.
You’ve laid out a great outline here for success in attaining more blog comments.
This is definitely worth printing out & placing by one’s computer for reference.
Thanks Steven!
George
Hi George, you’re most welcome. I’m having a ball lately reading other’s blogs and commenting on them. I believe that it’s the best way to meet a lot of new friends and maybe even future business partners.
It seems that if you post the information that people are looking for (or even something that makes them stop and think), they will naturally find their way to you.
Hi Steven,
So true, my friend!
George
George,
You hit the nail right on the head about printing this information out and keeping it handy.
I had to come back again just so I could do that.
It is always a good idea to keep good information handy.

I’ve got a number seven for you – Give It Time.
I always say that progress isn’t linear. Just because you’re doing the right thing doesn’t mean you’ll get the right results right away.

Hi Micah,
I totally agree with you on that. If you continue giving your readers relevant content and answers to their questions, you’re building trust.
It will grow over time. It does take time for them to get to know you.

Hey,
Getting comments to your blog is definitely a task that overwhelms most folks. I think a lot of it as well has to do with where your traffic is coming from. This ensures that the readers are definitely interested in what you have to say.
I definitely agree with commenting on other blogs. Everyone wants comments on their blogs right? I think out of courtesy, folks return the favor and comment on your blog. Which definitely helps!
Cheers,
Triston Isaac

Hi Triston,
Thanks for dropping by, what you say is totally true. I try to read mostly blogs in my own or a similar niche, and I really like to read comments to my posts.
I certainly like to return the favour and check out their blog. I’ve found some really cool blogs that way that I would have probably never even seen otherwise.
CommentLuv really helps.
Thanks, Triston. – Steve
