Social Media – Who Needs It?
Who Needs Social Media? You! Me!
If you have a blog, what’s the number 1 thing you need to accomplish? Me! Me! I know! (Raising hand)
The answer is getting your blog posts read by as many people as possible, the ones who need the encouragement and information that you’re providing.
If you’re not using social media then you’re just plain missing the boat. I’m talking about Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
I’m Officially Jumping in Feet First!
No excuses, over the course of the next several posts I’ll be setting up a Facebook page, signing up for a Twitter account, and starting a Pinterest board for this blog.
I welcome input from anyone who has any helpful advice , pitfalls to avoid, or general encouragement to offer.
I’d like to invite everyone that hasn’t gotten their feet wet yet on social media, to join me in setting this up for their business.

I think that everyone needs Social media, in fact, even the biggest organisations use the help of social media.

Hi Utkarsh,
I totally agree with you on that. I realize I’ve put off getting involved in it for too long.
There’s just too much to be gained, to not jump in and start making connections.
You know if those big organizations are using it, it has to be paying off for them.
Thanks for dropping by, Utkarsh. – Steve

Hi Steven,
I try to remember to use social media. I have a Facebook profile and even a page. I also have a twitter account and one on Pinterest. I just forget to post to them each day. I know, I need a better system!

Hi Kathy,
I know what you mean, I’ve had a Facebook account for several years now, I started it originally to keep up with news of several relatives that were ill, and later on, I got tired of the usual gossip and cute signs everybody posts on it.
I joined Pinterest at least a year ago, and just never did anything with it.
Twitter has always seemed a mystery to me, so I’ve never even joined it.
Lately though, I’ve come to realize how important these different social media have become to business, and spreading your message around.
I’ve come to the conclusion that if I waited until I felt comfortable with it before I started using it, I would probably never get it off the ground. Sometimes it’s better to just jump in, and learn as you go.
After all, there’s a wealth of information around on how to use all the social media, I basically have no excuses anymore.
Thanks, Kathy. – Steve

Hey Steven,
I have found that being active on social media is one of the fastest and more efficient ways to properly connect with your audience and network with people that share our interests as well.
Haven’t used Pinterest (yet) but I’m active at least on twitter and facebook, publish from time to time in Google Plus and create videos regularly on YouTube as well.
I don’t do it that much for the traffic anymore (I used to) it’s more like being present on those channels so I can get to know more people and of course, get others to know me.
Looking forward to your social media accounts and being present on other social networks my man, good luck!

Hey Sergio,
I appreciate it man. Facebook was always to me just something my relatives gossiped on, and Twitter has been a complete mystery to me, but I’ve come to realize they could be a really useful tool in spreading my message.
I’ve put it off too long, just got to jump in and get better at it as I go.
Thanks, Sergio. – Steve

Hi Steve
That’s so true, we do all need social media. Like you, my Facebook account is a few years old, but it didn’t occur to me that I should be liking my own stuff on there. D’oh!
V glad I found you

Hi Shan,
You got that right, I’ve put it off for too long. I’ve got a pretty steep learning curve on all the different media, but I’ll get there.
I’m glad you dropped by.

Social Media marketting is not always successful. For example: If I am not a famous blog already, how can I have a huge group of Follwers. And without followers, on whom will I do social media marketting.
Hi Wasee,
Sorry I’m so late replying to your comment.
I think the best point is just to get connected. Your posts and tweets can be shared and retweeted, it helps get your name and brand out there.
A big part of social media is sharing other people’s posts that you think your readers will be interested in. It kind of works both ways, you share theirs, they share yours.
Another couple of helpful things to do is join Gravatar, and CommentLuv.
Gravatar will show your face, people like to see that you’re a real person.
CommentLuv will get you links back to your blog when you make a comment, and also others will follow you back to your blog when you comment on theirs.
Both of these are free to join.
Thanks, Wasee. – Steve

Hey Steven,
If you want to make it in today’s online world then you definitely need the social networking accounts. When I started this journey back in 2010 Pinterest wasn’t around of course but I already had a Facebook and Twitter account.
You definitely need to just be consistent in your daily actions and that’s to connect with as many people as you can. That’s the best way to get your content viewed.
You get to start from scratch so it’s kind of exciting and I’ll look forward to watching your journey unfold.

Hi Adrienne,
I really appreciate your advice and encouragement.
My biggest complaint with Internet marketing is I don’t have nearly as much time as I would like to work on it. I have discovered tons of changes I would love to make on my blog, from reading your posts on your site, and I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.
I take all your recommendations seriously, because I know you’ve already been there and you know what does and doesn’t work.
Thanks, Adrienne. – Steve

I use SMM and I get about 60% of traffic from Twitter and Facebook. For me, SMM plays more significant role than SEO. And I have a suggestion, Steve will you please write a post about pinterest and how to use it. I can not create an account in pinterest.
Hi Wasee,
More successful marketers these days recommend spending more efforts on social media marketing, and less on SEO. I agree with them in that it’s becoming more important for getting traffic to your blog than what Google thinks, because you’re getting more focused traffic that is more attuned to what you’re offering.
I have had a Pinterest account for at least a year, and admit that I haven’t gotten very involved in it, but I’m about to change that. My next post will be on that very subject as the final post in my series on social media.
I believe that social media is something that you simply can’t do without if you want to get anywhere with online marketing.
Thanks, Wasee. – Steve
